More Facts About Other Greenlight Applications
Thursday, November 13, 2014

As an optics business, it’s clear that we immerse ourselves in optical engineering and plastic optics molding. But, our company focuses on other parts of the optics and engineering world as well. What exactly are some of the other applications we do at Greenlight Optics? Though we dedicate time and resources to a plethora of different aspects, we’ll just focus on three right now: miniature projection, medical imaging and CNC machining. Read on to find out more about each of these applications.

MINIATURE PROJECTION
Movie theaters, classrooms, office buildings and eve homes around the world all have projectors and screens placed in their rooms. And while some settings call for a video to be projected on a grand scale, other instances do not. That’s where miniature projection comes in. All of the technology and information that’s included in a typical projector is packed into a handheld device.

These miniature projectors need precision, experience and innovative thinking when it comes to designing, manufacturing and developing them. Greenlight Optics offers all of these and, as such, is a recognized leader with miniature projectors. Many of the miniature projectors we work with employ a more widespread use of LEDs as a part of their design, and we take that into careful consideration. With embedded pico-projector modules, electronic eyewear and even pocket projectors, there are more and more uses every day for miniature projectors. Smartphones, mobile video games and many other applications are currently using these devices; some uses haven’t even been imagined yet!

MEDICAL IMAGING
When trying to create a visual representation of the inner workings of the human body, medical imaging leaves no room for error. At Greenlight Optics, we understand this because of our experience in imaging and sensing. We work on developing custom lenses and imaging modules that are designed with the needs of each unique function in mind. There are different technologies that are used in medical imaging, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs) and sonic imaging, but optical imaging remains a cornerstone of the diagnostic process.

CNC MACHINING

Experienced machinists can create a myriad of items. That’s whom we have in-house at Greenlight Optics. Having experienced machinists and toolmakers allows us to design parts at our facility without having to send the work out, so we can provide you with the very best quality and ready-to-use optical products. With computer numerical control (CNC) machining, controls and commands are completed by automation, of course, but have commands programmed by our experts. Knife cutting, glass cutting, 3-D printing and glass lenses all benefit from some form of CNC machining.

Though, typically when you think “optics,” the immediate thought is about eyes, there are many other facets included in the optics engineering industry. While you may be familiar with the terms LEDs and lasers, there are many more capabilities and projects occurring under the Greenlight Optics’ roof.
